Math formatting

[edit]

Hi Ra-raisch, and (a late) welcome to Wikipedia. I saw your thread over at User talk:Cuzkatzimhut and in one or another spot. I'd just like to hint that it is recommended to format mathematical formulas, either using Tex or using HTML. This is for readability. Of course, it isn't set in stone for talk pages, but you may lose a percentage of your audience (they might think "oh, this guy probably doesn't have a clue" and walk away without having read at all) if you don't follow this practice. YohanN7 (talk) 12:39, 3 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

thanks, I know, but it's a bit awkward for short texts. Ra-raisch (talk) 15:38, 3 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
You can also just use italics (and proper spacing), i.e a = b instead of a=b. It is quick enough. I want to emphasize that I am not nitpicking. I was serious about "losing one's audience". YohanN7 (talk) 07:09, 4 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
oh, I must say, I don't usually bother about italics, thanks for this hint, I was mostly bothered about subscripts. Ra-raisch (talk) 08:00, 4 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

A useful venue

[edit]

Welcome from me too. A "forum" style site, where one asks and discusses questions of substance--not editorial WP issues, is this one. Not really steering you to it, but people ask lots of questions for community input... Just a thought... Cuzkatzimhut (talk) 16:44, 4 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I don't usually ask questions apart from editing a page, I'm not interested in a forum. It is just that g' is nowhere declared as strong charge and g is multiused. In the end I was more or less guessing. It is really a pity, the explanations are so short on some pages not even declaring the symbols used, often using different symbols for the same quantity, using different systems... That is exactly where I try to improve the text, as far as I can understand it. If I ask a question, this is supposed to be a hint for improving readability of the page for the avarage user.
